Dr Tony Bates at the Tara Centre

25 September @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Finding Beauty and Mystery through Mindfulness

The Tara Centre is delighted to welcome Dr Tony Bates, one of Ireland’s most respected clinical psychologists and pioneers of mindfulness, for a special evening exploring how mindfulness can help us recover from life’s difficulties and rediscover a deeper sense of aliveness.

Many of us find ourselves living under the weight of the past – shaped by stress, anxiety, loss, disappointment or old patterns that seem difficult to change. Mindfulness offers a practical and compassionate way of meeting life differently.

Drawing on decades of clinical experience, research and personal practice, Tony will speak about how mindfulness can help free us from the grip of the past and, in his own words, “respark our lives with a fresh openness to mystery and beauty.”

This promises to be an inspiring evening for anyone who is:

  • navigating stress, anxiety or burnout
  • interested in mindfulness and emotional wellbeing
  • supporting others in healthcare, education or community work
  • curious about living with greater presence, compassion and resilience.

Whether you are completely new to mindfulness or have been practising for years, you are warmly invited to join us.

About Dr Tony Bates

Dr Tony Bates is a clinical psychologist, author and one of Ireland’s leading voices in mental health and mindfulness. He founded Headstrong (now Jigsaw), Ireland’s National Centre for Youth Mental Health, and has spent many years helping to shape mental health services throughout Ireland.

Tony has introduced mindfulness to thousands of people through his teaching, writing and public talks. His work combines psychological science with warmth, humanity and a deep understanding of what helps people heal and flourish.

Earlier this year he appeared on The Tommy Tiernan Show, where his thoughtful conversation on vulnerability, mental health and our shared humanity deeply resonated with viewers across Ireland. During the interview he observed:

“We are all a mess at some level, at some point.”

You can watch Tony’s interview on RTÉ Player (Season 10, Episode 16; his conversation begins at approximately minute 46).
